Writer's Reflection
Just like Inquiry One and Inquiry Two, Inquiry Three taught
me a valuable lesson in writing. Of course, what I learned in this Inquiry was
how to do research and write a research paper. I was surprised, it actually turned
out to be pretty fun! I loved that we got to choose our focus for this paper
and research something that we cared about. It’s always easier to write about
things you are passionate about.
The skills I have learned through Inquiry Three will be advantageous in my years to come here at Miami; I am only just beginning to realize how much college professors love to assign research papers. Learning how to use the online library resource is a gem of knowledge that I know I could not have mastered on my own. Finding credible sources that contain information you can actually use is just not possible using a normal search engine. I am so glad we have this resource and that I know how to access it. Now I have so much information right at my fingertips, I don’t even have to change out of my pajamas!
As much as I hated doing it, I’m also really glad I learned how to do a literature review. It is so helpful in figuring out how to integrate sources, and it is also a solid outline for your final paper. Inquiry Three taught me how to put my sources in conversation with each other. This really builds your argument, because it ties your facts together and shows that more than one person has something to say about the topic, giving your paper a feeling of legitimacy. I have already had to write a few research papers for other classes and what I’ve learned in Inquiry Three has helped me tremendously.
